Jordan's Cross by Brian Paccione - Brunel Sculpture Garden Artist In Residency Event

Brunel Sculpture Garden announces the first showcase of new visual work created by current Artist In Residence Brian Paccione on October 31 - November 1, 2020.

For the past year, Brian Paccione — in addition to writing and directing his own films — has been carving local Catskills driftwood and downed forest logs to create an expressive body of sculptural work.

“Jordan’s Cross” places these singular, playful, and primal carvings — women, men, beasts, angels, and more — alongside Emile Brunel’s sculptures to inspire a generational dialogue between two artists working one hundred years apart yet inspired by the healing power of the Catskills.

Two short films written and directed by Paccione — exploring similar themes as “Jordan’s Cross” — will be screened both evenings. The outdoor socially-distanced event will run Saturday 10/31 and Sunday 11/1, 10 AM - 6 PM, with a 30 min. screening of short films at 6 PM on both nights. Select carvings will also be for sale.

Admission is pay-what-you-want but guests are highly encouraged to make a suggested donation of $10 to The Friends of Brunel Park. The funds raised at this event will specifically support the restoration and repair of Brunel’s culturally and historically invaluable sculptures.

Guests are encouraged to bring chairs or a picnic blankets for the film screening. Food is allowed. Masks are required at all times in the sculpture garden. Guests are encouraged to bring their own additional PPE to ensure the safety of themselves and their community. Guests are limited to 50 people at a time, in line with  New York State Phase 4 guidelines. In light of the current situation, bathroom use will not be available. Parking is available on the Bread Alone/Coldwell Banker service road adjacent to Brunel Sculpture Garden. These guidelines are subject to change based on the most current health data. Rain dates are 11/7 + 11/8.
